I am mostly self-taught and I have enjoyed drawing from childhood. Despite tertiary studies followed by a 30 year career as a health professional, alongside raising a family – sketching & drawing have been an enduring interest whenever time allowed.

We moved to the Ballarat area in 1991 and although I continued working (now retired) with the family grown, there was more time for creative interests. Pastels were a natural transition from pencil & charcoal, and I still get excited painting using this immediate and vibrant medium. My painting style is best described as Realist Impressionist and colour is an important feature of my artwork. My subject matter is quite varied as I see interesting subjects anywhere and everywhere.  Equally my choice of painting mediums is also quite varied as different subjects might suit a particular medium. For many years I have painted using pastel or oil on a roughly equal basis and less often painted with acrylics, watercolours or pen+ wash. I also do most of my own framing.

Apart from just ‘doing my own thing’, I have had an extensive, informal art education via membership of several Art Groups/Societies. This ‘education’ might be from Artist Demonstrations through to workshops by established artists or simply by means of conversations with fellow artists, both amateur and professional. Yearly plein air painting trips with other artists have also been an invaluable part of my artistic journey.
