Peter Groom

Peter was born 1949 in Croydon, England.  His mother was very artistic, but sadly passed away when he was very young. His sister is also artistic, being an author and book illustrator. She still resides in England. He migrated to Australia in 1976 with his wife Marion and 2 boys, then 3 and 4 years old.

Peter has always enjoyed drawing, but more technical drawing to do with his work.

It was not until seeing an exhibition at The Victorian Artists Society Gallery that he began to think of undertaking any kind of formal art training.

Tutored by Gregory R. Smith at The Victorian Artists Society (currently President of VAS),  working in oils and tonal realism.  Won 1st place in his Students’ Exhibition. Joined the Berwick Artists Society and was tutored by Peter Petruccelli. Attended Life Classes run by the Society and by Peter.

Walter Magilton provided the challenge to extend his knowledge and to use other mediums including acrylic and pastel. Pastel is now his most often used medium. Peter has won several awards in exhibitions run by PSVA and BAS.

Elected Vice President of The Pastel Society of Victoria, Australia Inc in 2009.  Elected President of same society in 2011 and again in 2013.
