Judging and Categories

All paintings submitted are eligible for Awards.

All visitors to the exhibition will be able to vote for the Ming Mackay Award. Visitors and Members are asked to vote for one painting only for this Award.


Judging

  • The Committee appoints an Annual Exhibition Judge who is independent from the Pastel Society of Victoria, Australia
  • Judging takes place on the date specified in Important Dates

Painting Categories

Your entry must indicate which Category you are entering for each painting eg. A or C. Only allocate one category per painting for Categories A to E.

  • Category A: Landscape (includes Cityscapes)

  • Category B: Waterscape (paintings dominated by water in any setting eg. sea, river, lake, pool)

  • Category C: Portrait / Figurative

  • Category D: Still Life / Floral / Interior

  • Category E: Animal/Wildlife


You can also enter your painting into this group of special awards. When entering your painting(s) you will be asked to indicate your eligibility for each of these awards.

  • PSVA Award – open to artists who have not previously won a major award at a PSVA exhibition – please send an email

  • Margaret Lourey Award – open to artists who have not won an award at any exhibition

  • John Withers Emerging Pastellist Scholarship – open to artists currently participating in the scholarship program

Awards

  • Best in Show

  • Best in Show Runner Up

  • There will be a ‘Best of’ awarded for each of the Categories A-E

  • Paintings in Categories A-E will be eligible to be selected for the 10 Highly Commended Awards

  • PSVA Award – open to artists who have not previously won a major award at a PSVA exhibition

  • Margaret Lourey Award – open to artists who have not won an award at any exhibition

  • John Withers Emerging Pastellist Scholarship – open to artists currently participating in the scholarship program

  • Ming Mackay Award – ‘Peoples’ Choice’ (voted for during the Exhibition) and awarded at the December PSVA Monthly Meeting

  • President’s Choice

No painting shall win more than one Award, excluding the Ming Mackay Award
